Inclusive Excellence
Congratulations on becoming a part of the Wisconsin legacy that has been built throughout the rich history of our university. But, what does it mean to be a Badger? The Badger spirit is more than wearing red and white, cheering on our athletes, and singing “Varsity.” With calling yourself a Badger comes a sense of responsibility, pride and respect.
Complementing the historic traditions of the Wisconsin Idea and the Wisconsin Experience, all of us — students, faculty and staff — are committed to upholding the high standards of our community. We commit ourselves to uphold the four pillars of the Wisconsin Experience and to live out the Wisconsin Idea:
- Academic Integrity and Intellectual Curiosity
- Participation in Community and Responsible Citizenship
- Respect for Diversity
- Application of Knowledge and Integrative Learning
We respect the dignity of others. Let’s commit to better understanding ourselves and our own cultures, as well as seeking opportunities to learn about individuals and cultures different from our own. We can engage in educated discourse and learn from each other. We will put ourselves in someone else’s shoes. We will not engage in activities that discriminate or demean others. Badgers take care of each other. We are a community, a family. We care about putting our best foot forward and helping out our fellow Badgers. We lead by example.
Contribute to the university community by practicing this personal and social responsibility. Take advantage of the many opportunities here. This is your chance to make a difference in creating a diverse, inclusive and excellent university. Promote excellence in your educational, professional, civic and personal life.
