Celebrate Halloween responsibly: Stay safe, be smart, and have fun.
As we enter the Halloween weekend, here are a few reminders to help you celebrate safely and responsibly.
Join campus celebrations and events
There are a variety of campus events happening this weekend. Check out some Halloween and fall-themed events such as:
- Chillax with UHS Mental Health Services (create your own needle-felted pumpkin)
Explore other events happening on campus through today.wisc.edu.
Stay safe, be smart, and have fun
Make sure to charge your phone before heading out and keep an eye on the battery and signal. Let your friends know where you’re going to be and check in if plans change.
If you haven’t already, download the BadgerSAFE app to use Friend Walk, receive safety alerts, connect with UWPD, and more. If you see something that isn’t right, use the app or call UWPD at 608-264-2677.
Stay in the Social Zone. Not drinking is a great choice. If you choose to consume alcohol, keep it at a level where you remain mentally and physically aware. For many, this means three or fewer drinks. Also practice safer drinking habits by drinking water and eating before and while out. If you see someone in need of help and alcohol is involved, remember the university’s medical amnesty guidelines protect you and the person you’re helping. With smart actions, you can help a fellow Badger.
If you’re worried about a friend, reach out to OSAS to connect them with resources and support.
Be respectful and take care of one another
Culture is not a costume. Before choosing a costume that represents a culture or identity, consider its significance. Costumes that are racist, crude, or culturally insensitive negatively impact others.
Be mindful of your words and actions and how they impact your environment and those around you. Show kindness and respect. Move with empathy, compassion, and patience—for yourself and others.
No matter how you celebrate this weekend, remember to stay safe, enjoy yourself, and support one another—that’s what being a Badger is all about.
