From the stress of midterms, to unpredictable weather, we can understand that many of you are eagerly counting down the days until spring break. Well, Badgers, just like the groundhog said, early spring has arrived, and here are a few things to keep in mind for staying safe and having fun over break.
Be Safe and Respectful.
- Prepare your home for absence with tips from the UW-Madison Police Department.
- Alcohol is never an excuse to cause harm. Take care of yourself and our campus community by practicing safer drinking and intervening in dangerous situations.
- Be an active bystander. If you see something harmful happening, step in. Use the 3 D’s of Bystander intervention: be direct, distract, or delegate.
- Consent is always key. Honor the boundaries of others and don’t make assumptions.
Be Well.
- Mental health resources and support through University Health Services (UHS) and the Dean of Students Office are available. UHS has no-cost mental health services that include counseling, stress management, and a 24/7 crisis line staffed by a provider. In addition to the services available through UHS, every UW-Madison student also has access to virtual counseling sessions through Uwill. Learn more about your options here.
- Exercise and stay healthy. Whether you are staying in Madison over break, or traveling, find opportunities to work out and take care of your body. Drop into one of the facilities during spring break, or even check out the one-on-one wellness coaching program.
Have fun.
- Check out outdoor activities, equipment rentals, and other events sponsored by Outdoor UW.
- Explore Madison and all the fun events that can be found. Hike to Picnic Point, visit the Chazen or Museum of Contemporary Art, and even look out for concerts at The Sylvee.
So, wherever you choose to spend this week, make sure it’s full of rest and relaxation. And remember, UW students look out for one another.
