Campus Happenings – January 27–February 2

Student Affairs is providing weekly events, opportunities, and activities that Badgers can join online or in person. Building community is key to finding your home on campus. We encourage students to engage with others and find people to connect with at UW–Madison.

Join us this week for the following events and opportunities.

Highlights of the week:


  • Wisconsin Welcome: Wisconsin/Winter Welcome is a series of welcome programs and events designed to introduce new students to campus and the UW-Madison community from Jan. 25 thru Feb. 15.
  • Apply for a Bucky Award: The Bucky’s Award Ceremony is an event where students and student organizations have the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work on campus and in the community. All leaders are encouraged to apply! Candidates may submit up to two applications.

27: Libraries Bingo – Explore the various resources and services available through the UW-Madison Libraries. You may be surprised by all they have to offer you! Get bingo and submit your card to [specific link TBD] by Feb. 14 to be entered in a drawing to win a $25 University Bookstore gift card! 9 a.m.-10 p.m.

28: Multicultural Student Center (MSC) Comeback Carnival – Join the MSC for their virtual spring student organization fair with a live DJ, prizes, and comedian, Roy Wood Jr. Register here. 6-8 p.m.

29: Wisconsin Welcome Olympics Winter 2021 Opening Ceremony – Just like the real Olympics, you will compete with your team across several weeks of competition. However, instead of medals, you’ll win prizes. You will be put into teams based on your academic or career interests. On Zoom. 7-9 p.m.

30: Winter Wonderland: Nordic Skiing 101 – This introductory cross country skiing course will benefit anyone who would like to learn how to ski and/or develop what they already know about the “classic” style of cross country skiing. Learn the basics of classic skiing mechanics including starting and stopping, turning, and gliding across the snow, on Lake Mendota. Register here. 12-1 p.m. 

31: Choi Tae Kwon Do – Join Choi Tae Kwon Do Club for free lessons! They practice ITF-style tae kwon do, a traditional Korean martial art. No previous experience necessary. Wear workout clothes suitable for kicking, punching, and jumping. On Zoom. 10-11:30 a.m.

1: GradReady Marathon– Get ready to have fun and learn about money management. With the new year and start of the spring 2021 semester, it’s the perfect timing to get your finances in order by increasing your knowledge and confidence about budgeting, credit, saving, and much more. Use GradReady, a free, web-based financial wellness platform, to complete up to 26 badges and earn a max of 26 raffle tickets for a chance to win a fabulous prize. More info here. 8 a.m.-11:59 p.m.

2: Trivia Night – Think you know about UW, Judaism and Jewishness, Wisconsin, and other random stuff? Join Hillel for trivia night! They’re happy to introduce you to your new best friends, or come with a team ready to prove what you know! There are prizes for the top 3 teams and a few random treats to give away. ALL ARE WELCOME! On Zoom. 7-8 p.m.

Ongoing Activities:  

  • Winter Wonderland: Winter Scavenger Hunt – Participants can complete the scavenger hunt at any time between Jan. 16 and Feb. 14, 2021. Additionally, those who answer all 15 questions will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win Wisconsin Union gift cards ranging in value from $5-25. A drawing will take place on Feb. 15, and winners will be notified via email.
  • Rec Well Free Group Fitness Classes – The spring group fitness schedule began Monday, Jan. 25, and includes a mix of virtual and small in-person classes. All classes are free through Jan. 31. More info here.
