Halloween Weekend: Be Smart and Safe, celebrate, and Stay Aware

As we head into this upcoming Halloween weekend, here are a few things to keep in mind to have a safe and enjoyable celebration:

Be smart, stay safe, and have fun

Be respectful and take care of your fellow Badgers

  • Culture is not a costume. Before choosing a costume that represents a culture or identity, consider its significance. Costumes that are racist, crude, or culturally insensitive can impact others. Learn more about Halloween cultural awareness from University Housing.
  • Your words and actions matter. Be mindful of how your words and actions impact your environment and those around you. Show respect and kindness. You never know what people are facing, so try to lead with empathy, patience, and compassion – for ourselves and one another.
  • If you’re worried about a friend, find resources and support. If alcohol is involved, the University’s medical amnesty guidelines protect you and the person you’re helping, so you can make the right choice when a fellow Badger depends on it.

No matter what you choose to do this weekend, be safe, have fun, and take care of each other. It’s what Badgers do.
